James Smith (1802—1862) was a predecessor of Charles Spurgeon at New Park Street Chapel in London from 1841 until 1850. He is perhaps better known for his Daily Remembrancer which has been reprinted in recent years. Bread from Heaven is different from the Remembrancer in that it consists of chapters on various subjects: doctrinal, experiential, and practical. Originally published in 1857 with eighty chapters this reprint selects just 33 considered to be the best.
