The question of the relationship between law and gospel has always been relevant, ever since apostolic days. Our age is no different. Over the last few years we have witnessed an increasing effort to exalt the law even above Christ and his gospel. The idea that the law is the believer’s rule of life has been stressed to the point that anyone not falling into line is immediately labelled “Antinomian!” and treated almost as an heretic. The whole subject needs to be looked at calmly and carefully in the light of Holy Scripture, seeking that pure wisdom which comes from above. The publishers feel that this treatise by Philpot deals with the matter in such a manner. Although he does not answer every question, we believe he explains the place of the law generally, and as it relates particularly to the believer, clearly and scriptually.
