Originally published in 1911, this is a Reformation 500 Years edition. The author wasn’t of Reformed or Lutheran convictions, being rather on the liberal side, but he has written a fair, balanced and fascinating biography of ‘this redoubtable German … of titanic stature.’ The book is not over-scholarly, but it is a serious assessment of Luther whilst being easy to read. Where there are doubtful statements in the book the present publisher has inserted question marks to note the fact. With illustrations.
